I've recently had the privilege of being a videographer/photographer at a handful of flocking events in skydiving. Flocking involves flying parachutes close to each other and creating formations and/or dynamic flowing movements as a team.
My partner, Matt, owns the company (Momentum) that puts on a lot of these events. He is pushing the industry with his company more than anyone in this discipline, and it's super fun to watch and be a part of. I couldn't be more proud of him and what he's accomplished so far.
I'm pretty new to this whole photography thing... but it's been super fun combining two things I'm excited about. I'm also lucky enough to be surrounded by guys that have been doing it for a long time and are mentoring me.
Taking photos on skydives comes with a lot of challenges. There's a lot more to worry about, and to focus on for each jump, but it's a fun challenge to progress in this area.
So far, I've had the opportunity to shoot at several different camps/locations. Utah, Chicago, North Carolina, Norway, and my favorite.... the mountains of Switzerland!
The scenery in the Swiss Alps is unreal, and just makes my interest in photography even stronger. I'm so grateful for the opportunities I've had so far and I hope it continues! Regardless, I've had so much fun bringing jumping, flying and photography all together while challenging myself with something new. Not only has it helped me progress with my flying, but I'm starting to see things in a new creative way with a different perspective.
