I'd flown over the Nevada desert countless times on my way to San Francisco through the years and always marveled at the beautiful cloud-streets that can set up across the state. Having just moved to the Tahoe area, I'm thoroughly excited at the unrealized potential that Nevada holds for paraglider pilots.
I went out for my first flight of the season with hopes of not freezing too much and hopefully, flying for a few hours. But, every hour I kept thinking, " I can't believe I'm still in the air. Maybe, I'll push just a little further."
It was a cold day and my camelback froze about an hour into my flight. Two down jackets, big winter gloves with hand warmers, and ski pants fought off becoming frozen solid but it always seemed to creep back in. It can be a struggle to know I should climb and stay high to fly far, but want to stay low and a bit warmer....
I flew over I-80 and followed it until the sun went down over the Sierras to my West. It's always a special day to fly to dark.... and to break a long standing state record added just a little bit of specialness for a first day at the hill this season. The best part was getting to know some of the local pilots, who I'm really looking forward to sharing the sky with again, and without whom, I may still be hitch-hiking home. Huge thanks to Tyler Bradford, Jesse Newman, and Honza Rejmanek for showing me the way and coming to get me!!! Thanks Boys!!
