It was the spring of 2021, and we were so antsy to get back into the world after COVID. So, we blocked a full month on the calendar for an adventure. The pandemic gave us the opportunity to ask ourselves what really "mattered most" to us; what really filled us up?
We dug deep while commencing a handful of planning sessions, wanting to pack the month with only our favorite, most life-giving things. Spoiler: Friendship, music, strangers, and the Great Outdoors.
From there, we needed an adventure rig. So we did what anyone would do… we hosted a fundraiser in our hometown (Fort Collins, CO), where we played 24 hours of non-stop music to raise money for the best Craigslist find we ever did see....
A vintage 1979 Georgie Boy RV!
We played our freaking hearts out, and raised $4,000! $2,000 of that went straight to the local homeless shelter, and the other $2,000 cash..... got us keys to Georgie Boy!
Georgie Boy was a national treasure. Imagine grandma’s living room, with a huge engine inside of it! We were stoked, but we still hadn’t figured out how we wanted this trip to stand out? Surely, we couldn’t book a real tour, because the world was still opening back up?
Until one of the guys joked about Georgie Boy’s gas mileage. You see, Georgie Boy only got 5 or 6 miles to the gallon, which meant we would be stopping A LOT for fill ups. It was at this point that we began dreaming up “The Fill Me Up Tour”. We committed ourselves to playing a live concert at every gas station we filled up at along our 30-day journey.
Sounds silly?… because it is.
So we hit the road. And Georgie Boy took us to stages (edit: parking lots) we never dreamed of playing. From under the main sign at LOVES Truck Stop, to getting kicked out of multiple Pilots, all the way to a headline gig at the “Swingin’ Steak” in the town of Mexican Hat, UT (population: 21). We backpacked through Zion, rafted through Moab, camped out in some incredible obscure places (thank you freecampsites.net) and yes, awkwardly played concerts for unsuspecting gas station patrons all along the way. Gas station concerts. Gas station showers. Gas station snacks. And most notably, gas station Indian curry (somewhere in AZ).
Along the way, we met the most incredible people, experienced the incredible beauty of the southwest, shared amazing music, and made memories I can’t wait to tell my (future) kids about.
The best part? We filmed the entire thing.
Check out the first sneak peak (click link) of this adventure and the shenanigans that transpired with our new music video featuring “Get Up & Go”.
Georgie Boy, you were the most trusty steed we could have hoped for.
