Passionate about living every day to the fullest, pushing the edge, living a meaningful life of exploration and adventure, keeping active, photography + videography, especially aerials....these are the things that I define as "most important" in my life.
Life highlights and KAVU days are all about paragliding, travel, mountain biking, rock climbing, long adventure days, such as tandem bicycle rides up to longs peak, climbing the mountain, and biking back in a day…. It's about getting as many pitches in during an alpine climbing ascent as possible in the daylight… or, trail running from Pokhara, Nepal to Mardi Himal High camp in a day –50km and 12000 feet elevation -- and paragliding back down in the morning etc..) These are the adventures that are worth capturing and the ones that will bring a smile to my face for a lifetime!
I'm a Boulder CO native, with very active parents and family, all who are my inspiration and have guided my love for the outdoors. I've always spent weekends outdoors - camping, hiking, traveling, etc. while growing up. I'm so grateful that my folks got me on skies at the age of 2 when I could barely walk;-)
....and I try to spend as much time as possible with the people I love, doing the sports/activities I love. Outdoors, working on fun photo assignments, meeting other likeminded people, etc. is my best life. I don’t see myself stopping this lifestyle any time soon – I believe the most important component of our lives is our happiness, and these are the things that make me happy. I love going on adventures with buddies, scheming up big plans to do mountain ascents with paragliding descents, running up multiple 14ers in a day, etc. It's always great to find other wild and crazy adventure enthusiasts who are passionate about living a fun life, who are less traditional, and share in the desire to find happiness every day.
What I love about adventure photography is it’s the only job that constantly gets me outside. I love the diversity...one weekend I’m shooting a motorcycle tour around New Zealand, the next I’m filming base jumpers in Moab, then to Philippines to film beach resorts…)
It’s incredibly diverse and allows me to travel the world, meet incredible new people, experience new cultures and places that most people never encounter.
I also love the challenge – pushing myself to capture something memorable, something strikingly beautiful, and in the most complex and creative of ways (dangling from hot air balloons, flying a drone through tight caves, filming underwater etc). No day is ever the same as the last, and that’s what I love about my job. Its not "9-5" with the same routine, it’s always evolving, challenging, pushing me in a creative way to capture something in a unique way, from beaches one day, to mountains the next…
I love the career path that I’m on, and wouldn’t really say it’s ‘going somewhere’ or moving towards something, but instead it’s always been – and probably always will be -- in a state of constant flux. A travel photography lifestyle means taking last minute flights to international destinations on a day’s notice, never knowing your schedule more than 2 weeks in advance …and I love that part.
