Over the last few years of traveling a few places have stuck out in stories as “must go” places from everyone I meet.
Number one on that list, for a long time, has been South Island New Zealand. I'd heard wild stories of giant mountain Fiords rivaling Norway, and an outdoor spirit that is as unique as the island itself.
When I finally arrived, it was quickly apparent that ALL the stories were true.
Within an hour of landing in Queenstown, I was greeted by my long friend Ben Dixon, better know as Dicko. I piled my two large bags into the already packed Hyundai clown car, and we sped off to Milford Sound.
We “freedom camped” and woke at 5am, ready to hike a jump known locally as “Charismatic”.
The name was very fitting considering how I felt after landing;-)
....we hopped back in the "clown car" and drove to Wanaka with the hopes of jumping an exit only known as “the one”.
I had heard stories of it for years…a thousand foot waterfall in the heart of Mt. Aspiring National Park. The beauty of the place rivals anywhere I have ever been in the past…
and you get to send a thousand foot waterfall!
New Zealand has lived up to its reputation as a gem of beauty and adventure. Most locals average days include 2 or 3 adventure sports regularly. The question there isn’t “what are we going to do today?”…its “what are we NOT going to do today?” :)
