Most of Canada and the US in stuck in a polar vortex at the moment. It is -40F almost everywhere, even the typically balmy Vancouver Island which, has dropped below the freezing mark.
Now, if you were to asking Tyler Bradt in Montana, he would likely describe our current island weather of around 32F as "balmy" or even go as far as calling it "tropical".
But for us island dwellers, 32F and snow is chilly and a little out of the norm.
Mark Matthews and I decided we still needed to make the best of it with a couple epic days at the beach and on the bike trails.
We headed headed to the beach to check the waves and explore some of our favorite island spots.
Sunset in the secrete cave is not to be missed....... Nor is trying to whip your buddy with a piece of washed up kelp!
The following morning, both the surf and bike trails looked like they would be running as prime as they could get.
We headed to the beach to find it fully covered in frost, but waves as perfect as they could get for a log jam. Mark and I suited up and hit the water, scoring some fun waves. We got to watch the sun rise up over the mountain while in the water.
It was a nice sight as it seem to make everything feel just a little bit warmer.
Once getting out of the water, it was time to grab out bikes and find some lines for Mark to film on.
It didn't seem to matter where on the island we went......
sending it in the snow was going to be the only option.
Charging in the snow is not the easiest, but we made the best of it, with only a couple
funny wipe outs!
All in all..... it is cold out there, but there is still fun to be had.
So bundle up buttercup......
and get out there!
