As the crisp of winter loosened it's bite, Dan and I decided we'd head to the city of Salt Lake to visit some of the KAVU family and take the opportunity to learn some new skills.
Life is most valuable when each day becomes an opportunity to learn and experience new, rad and exciting things. Trying "new things" sounds so cliche but, I really do think that there's nothing better in the world than to get to try something that I've always been curious about, and then make that decision and go and do it.
Not to mention, on this trip we would be meeting up with Jesse Hall, Tyler Bradt, Neil Amonson, Marshall Miller and a grip of other KAVU fun havers!
Dan and I fully anticipated laughing our guts out!
Neil and T Bradt met us at the paragliding destination in SLC called the Point of the Mountain Flight park. The skies were a touch on the dark and stormy side but, the conditions and smooth wind were perfect to learn to kite and ground handle our wings.
The boys showed us whats up and we had a blast learning some of the skills used to later launch a paraglider in the mountains.
We laughed at ourselves, and for sure laughed at each other but.....
.....it was cool for "Dan the man" and I to get one step closer to flying into blue skies, KAVU style!!
So much of a #kavuday is about who you're with. Neil, Tyler and I left the training grounds at the Point of the Mountain and headed to IFLYUTAH.
IFLY is an indoor skydiving wind tunnel where you can fly inside a glass tube by presenting your body to super high winds generated by a fan in the floor, basically simulating a skydive. To watch experts flying their bodies in the wind tunnel is like watching people dance. It's a totally surreal feeling to float and fly and, for me is a perfect opportunity to work on some skills for what's become a huge passion in my life......skydiving.
I can be going a million miles an minute with "life's tasks" but when I get to do a skydive, I feel like it brings me back to a center. It helps me to be clear and to remember what's truly important. It also makes me hope everyone finds their "wings" so, to do this with Dan and my homies was extra cool.
Jesse is a full time tunnel coach and Ninja so, he showed us what's up, for sure!
Really..... no KAVU adventure is complete without a bit of a surf, so we followed the indoor theme for one more raging adventure. I think the Vid below is pretty self-explanatory;-)
And......the KAVU day obviously continued
Obviously.......
Perspective is everything. Every once and a while, it's important to change it up, get out of the comfort zone, say forget what's intimidating or, takes too much time........and just go.
What KAVU adventure are you going to go on next?
