Everyone’s lives changed when the coronavirus spread across the globe. As the uncertainty mounted, we as free-flight pilots decided that it would be best to give the members of our larger community breathing room. In an attempt to be responsible citizens, we took to exploring more back country settings for our flying outings. We waited to return to our normal stomping grounds until our state government had announced more comprehensive plans to combat the pandemic.
But, like true KAVU'ers, we embraced the opportunity to explore areas that we normally deemed as inconvenient. Hope and thrill fueled our missions. Hope for accessing new skies, and the thrill of what we might find......
Here is what we found:
We found that it is best to be bold and start cold.
We found that deep snow can always get deeper.
We found that two layers of clothing works well, but five layers are best.
We found that food is crucial after two hours of post-holing uphill, and that someone was generous enough to share his extra sandwiches (Bill and I owe you our lives, Paul!!).
