I have been wanting to make the trip into BC to ski at Rogers Pass for a while now. Toward the end of this last season, we finally made the time and it definitely didn't disappoint. It's 10-hour drive from Bozeman, so my friend Tom and I took a 5-day stretch off of work to get as much skiing in as we possibly could in the time we had. KAVU Days ahead!!
We passed the time by listening to the Velvet Underground, R.E.M, and the Enormocast. Tom forgot all of his ski clothes in Bozeman but that couldn't dampen our spirits.
Rogers Pass has everything from short day trips to epic multiday glacier traverse options.
A stable snow pack, combined with fresh snow overnight, gave us the perfect weather window to give it a go!
We turned the back of the Honda Element into a bed and slept in the Visitor Centre parking lot.
Classic dirtbag style;-)
One night, we ventured into Revelstoke to load up on pastries, cheese, and canned sardines. We read that the Revelstoke Recreational Centre had a lazy river and indoor deep water soloing, so we threw on our swimsuits and went to investigate.
That night we attempted to get some rest and thoroughly dry our gear by getting a motel, the cheapest motel available, attached to a gas station in a poorly lit corner of a large parking lot.
It was the least restful sleep I have had in a while. But, part of the adventure!!
We decided, whoever rides shotgun has one job-- to provide snacks on command!!
So, we ended up buying bread from our local bakery before the trip to serve the purpose;-)
Sometimes I think I ski just to enjoy the snacking....... but, we.... of course.... also made sure to enjoy Canadian sour gummies, ketchup chips, Tim Horton's, and poutine!!
Since...... I've come to consider a Snickers bar health food, obviously;-)
Ha ha ha ha
It was a great trip! There is, for sure, more skiing than anyone could do in a lifetime.
I will be back next Winter for certain.... for more KAVU Days!!
