Between having to wait to get materials, dodging the Winter and Spring time rains, and a couple of super fun trips, we've been making 'slow-but-sure' progress toward our dream of building a hangar right next to our new home for the KAVU Cub.
To save some money and make it feasible, I've been doing the building myself, along with the help of good friends. It always seems to be a better experience and worth so much more when you get to do the work yourself to materialize a dream. In this case, having our own hangar to protect the plane from the elements is truly an investment in our passion for flying.
But, it's also good to take time in the between moments to remember what it's all for!
Our dear friends Louie, Meira and Jasper, have been neck deep in helping us with this project and it's been super cool to sneak in coastal cruises when the clouds open up and the beauty of the ocean shows itself! This was Jasper's first time in the plane and seeing her smiling face in the back seat had me laughing through the headset!
Once the framing was done on the hangar, we had to wait for the trusses to get manufactured before more progress could be made. As is the case in so many places around the country, the truss company was backed up, creating an amazing opportunity for Kara and I to make a quick trip over to Kauai with Louie, Meira, Jasper. It was dreamy to get out of the rain for a bit and to surf wearing board shorts and a rash guard (basically, a T-Shirt), as opposed to a 4/5 wetsuit, complete with booties, gloves and a hood!
After our time in Kauai and being that I was so close to Oahu, I took the opportunity to hop islands to visit one of my oldest and best friends, Aaron Tipp. We were like brothers in High School and for him, surfing is life. To get to visit his family, share some time with Brittany and his smart and amazing daughter London.... his legendary brother Jason, and to share some epic waves with Aaron was about as good as it gets.
The day after we got home, my Brother Dave and his partner in crime, Meagan (who is the coolest and best sister-n-law we could ask for) came for a quick visit!
Between Hawaii and our return, it was like two and a half weeks of totally blissing out before getting back to work. Grateful isn't a big enough word!
But finally, the truss truck pulled up and it was time to get rollin!!
Good energy on the job site means that progress is swift and the vibes stay fun.
We decided to celebrate with a "quick trip, letter rip" down the coast. Watching the sun set from the air never gets old, no matter where we are!
Stay tuned for more progress!
