I have a bad habit of staying up late, studying random "potential" on Google Earth.
Sometimes........ I stumble upon something really special.
A little over a year ago, I drifted over the San Rafael swell in central Utah and came across a formation called the Hondu Arch.
The name alone implied a hole.......
And a hole...you can fly through!
It didn’t take much more investigating to realize that we needed to go to this place. So, Julia and I.... along with a group of stoked friends..... drove late into the night, started a campfire, and waited till morning to see exactly what we were dealing with.
Once the sun rose, we realized the true awe of the place!
Not only was the hole as cool as we thought, but there was an endless supply of slider-down jumps for us to play on!
Flying the hole was AWESOME!
Technically, it wasn’t too difficult for the pilots who have devoted their lives to training for this type of flying. The feature on the beautiful rock formation had us diving steep through the entrance.... which then led to a long run-out to a nice, big, landing area.
Just the way I like it!!
What was best?
Sharing this experience and, 6 new slider-down jumps in an area that has never been jumped…ever!
This area in the San Rafael swell has an incredible amount of unique formations that little to no BASE jumpers have had a chance to explore.
Being given the opportunity to explore a place like this is what makes me keep going.
This is what I'd define as one of my favorite types of.....
KAVU DAY!
