To get to Hakuba one routes through Tokyo en route to Nagano and then jump on a bus to Hakuba. If you get lost, a local will show you the way. No, really, someone will come out of nowhere and help you get to where you should be.
What are these photos about?
Skiing in Japan is more than riding deep snow. It is about experiencing one of the coolest, and most welcoming cultures in the world. Check out the Robot Restaurant in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
Apres scene in Japan is varied from local haunts serving ice cold Asahi dry to after party rowdiness full of Aussie revelers. There is a bar in the Golden Gai neighborhood of Tokyo where KAVU folk are welcome. Bar Nana was closed when we came upon it but when we uttered the four letter word, KAVU, the owner threw the door open and welcomed us in like family.
Jeb Stuart went large in Goyu. Not quite as large as the local Sumo legend who drinks bitter beer for fun.
Casey Wesley and David Cleeland moving out a ridge line during a back-country day at Goryu, Japan.
Jeb Stuart at Cortina, and David Cleeland going off the dam at Happo-One.
Jeb Stuart enjoying the only blue bird day we saw in mountains that were bigger than we imagined.
Being in the mountains. Feeling the snow crunch and move under foot. Solo missions are cool but to share an experience is to magnify it positively 10 fold.
Casey Wesley dropping down to climb up the other side. Now we were off into the backcountry and looking forward to waist deep turns.
