Neil created the “Jump for Joy” project to teach young people that they can do whatever they dream and that no dream is too big when it comes to seeking happiness. We wanted to share Neil’s words and experience regarding his last epic event. Enjoy!! We sure did!!
Neil: I got the special opportunity to put on an event for the Wasatch Kids Camp, a summer program for young people aged 5-15 in Salt Lake City. The event was on August 1st and was held at Butler Park, a really nice field only about 7 minutes away from my house.
We had our typical Utah summer morning weather, sunny and light winds. If anything, it was a bit hot and the kids had to tough out the bright sun while sitting in the bleachers but they were rock stars! The jumpers met the airplane, a Cessna 182, at a local airport called South Valley Regional. It was about a 10 minute flight until we were over the park where the kids were.
Myself and Lyndsay jumped first from 5,500‘ above the ground, followed 20 minutes later by Mike and Marc. During the break between jumpers, we talked to the kids about how to take their ideas and make them real.

One of the skills we want to help young people develop is belief. Dreams can become reality. Combining inspiration with education! :) We discussed the DREAM, PLAN, DO technique for bringing ideas to reality.
It‘s a visual aid to help them see the benefit of sharing your ideas with other people. No one can “see“ your idea until you tell them about it. It‘s one of the first steps in taking your dream or idea and starting to bring it to life.
The marble is a symbol of their “plan“. They have to take their invisible dream and focus their attention into a plan before they can go and try it. Often it helps to have a physical representation of your plan to keep you motivated and the marble is a great reminder for them that no plan is to small to be excited about if it makes them happy.
……to see everyone from the community come and participate. Jesse Hall another KAVU ambassador, was our ground crew and sky diver, Andrew Haywood saved the day by setting up the sound system and manning the air to ground radio. We also had a handful of the local skydivers come out to watch, as well as friends, neighbors, city officials, and one of the local police officers even brought his kids.
Hopefully the first of many Utah jumps we will do with the goal being to help young people live more happy, fulfilling lives.
