For us, there's nothing more fulfilling than opportunities to pass on our love for the outdoors to our kids, and to cultivate a deep respect for nature. I grew up in Unalakleet, Alaska, but our family currently lives in Ketchikan with my wife, Tory being a born and raised Haida Native.
Currently, we are both teachers but aspire to transition to full-time travelers. Any chance we get to show our kids (Bria, Bailey and Noah) more incredible places, culture and people around this beautiful planet is an opportunity Tory and I are grateful for!!
Our entire family loves to explore new places to climb, hike, paddle, and surf. As parents, our desire is to share our love of this world and to reinforce the idea that it's how we interact with people, the environment and the opportunities we get in our lives that shapes who we become.
For us, this summer is all about bonding, travel and new experiences!
Our first stop was Moab. We were keen to see some iconic sites and to hike and climb as much as we could fit into the time we had in this unique desert.
Dead horse point and the views from the Rim Trail was like looking into the past. This place is not only beautiful and vast, but it was also interesting to think about the history within this landscape.
Next, we wanted to explore Sand Dunes Arch and some of the other unique formations in Arches National Park.
Delicate Arch blew our minds..... thinking about all of the weather and time it took for such a unique formation to come to exist.
Scrambling and bouldering, finding pockets of oasis, interesting animals, and most of all for Tory and I, seeing our kids find smiles withing this grand adventure was a huge reward.
These are the memories that trips like this gift us.
Never the destination..... always the journey.
We're now back in Salt Lake to explore before heading back to Alaska for a few weeks to go on our next sea kayaking adventure.
After that.... we plan to load up for a road trip back down to the "lower 48" where we hope to explore Washington, Idaho, Montana and Oregon. I have a feeling that this is going to be a full-value KAVU Summer. Stay tuned for more. We're super excited to share our KAVU days with you all... and of course, hope to see you "out there"!
