On the second half of our summer, our family had planned a trip to adventure through Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and back to Alaska. With a rare west coast heat wave in the forecast, and due to both the highest temperatures recorded in years, and the safety of our German shepherd, we decided to head north on the Alaska Ferry system. I must admit.....
..... it was a pretty fun alternative! Happiness is a state of mind and not a place so, we were pretty sure there were lots of KAVU days to be found!
We traveled on the ferry to Petersburg, Alaska where we spent a glorious 2 weeks fly fishing, hiking, and cruising pristine lakes on the stand-up paddle board. Traveling around the island, it was easy to take in all of the peace and beauty that place had to offer.
And, the fishing was pretty good too!
Our family also loves adventuring on our Sea Raider 2284 boat where we subsistence fish and gather. Spending similar time as a family in new places always feels like a unique opportunity and something we never take for granted.
The many nights spent camping on the boat or in our adventure van felt like the definition of "BusyLivin". Every day was a new adventure and an opportunity to experience the world around us.
A KAVU day to us means: to pay attention to each minute of every day. With that level of presence, there's so much to see, do and learn.
Ha! Some things change.....
But, some things don't;-)
Next, Tory and I took a few days to travel on our KLR 650, running mostly back country roads and trails. Sometimes, finding the right vehicle and a perfect travel partner is exactly what it takes to find all the right places.
All in all, the new plan to avoid the heat provided a great time as a family and created a lot of cool stories.
Our favorite part of the trip was, first and foremost, being together..... exploring and adventuring as a family..... but also meeting new friends, fellow adventurers, and seeing new places.
For us.... this is our KAVU!
