Life is about making the most of every day!
I had the opportunity to go ski in the Dolomite's and I jumped at the chance. I've skied my whole life but, I had no idea what awaited me in those epic mountains. Our team of 4 flew to Munich, rented a car, and then continued south to the Sur Tirol region of NW Italy.
We stayed in Val Gardena. The area is connected by many resorts over multiple passes, has 456 lifts and 1,200 km of pistes to explore on skis.
You don’t just ski here... you adventure! We traveled from Valley to Valley, town to town on our skis and learned, if we weren't careful, we could easily get stuck needing a long taxi ride home. Crossing a pass and skiing down could take no time at all, but a long 3 hours and 300 euros, depending on the valley, to get back home when the lifts close! What a wild way to ski "on area"!!!
The mountains that make up the Dolomite's are such a unique shape and color.
It was special for me to see Sass Pordoi, a castle of a mountain where Team KAVU all Wingsuit Basejumped in 2012.
One day, we ventured far from our base camp to see a very special church on top of a mountain called, Santa Croce.
It's a place you can only reach on foot or by Chairlift. Directly next to the church, there's a great little restaurant where we were able to eat and happily fill up with Wiess Beer.
The amount of Hutte’s, or places to eat, while skiing is amazing! They are spread out all over the mountains, making for perfect places to rest between runs. Having fun is thirsty work!
There was a run that was 12 kms long!! We skied it so fast it felt like we were in a James Bond movie.
It was a true KAVU Adventure and we are so thankful to our guides Inigo Zubiria and Elena Anibarro!
The skiing was incredible but the Apres skiing is what I really live for. The smiles, the fun, the singing and most of all... the dancing in your ski boots was legendary!
I can now say I understand adventure skiing in the Dolomite's.
The day we had to leave - tired and fulfilled - from great skiing, we ventured into the town of Ortesei.
We had a blast in the Sur Tirol and I can only imagine how amazing this place is in summer.
