I was so stoked to have the opportunity to spend a month back in my home town in Colorado this winter. I made it my mission to get outside as much as possible, and to go on as many backcountry adventures as I could talk my friends into!
KAVU days, onward!
Starting with a super fun ascent up the first Flatiron, a dominant rock feature which overlooks the town of Boulder. A bit of a "morning cruise", Walker was in his element;-)
Usually, while at home I'm stuck being a bit of a "weekend warrior", but on the rare weekday... I was able to escape with friends and go camping/climbing/skiing in the mountains, bringing me to places I'd never been!
We went everywhere from Rocky Mountain National Park to the Indian Peaks range, and spent most of our nights above 10,000 feet and...
below 10 degrees F!!!
It was a blast testing our most extreme camping gear against the elements, and inviting as many friends as possible on all of the crazy adventures.
and..... trying to bring back rich memories to share with the friends who couldn't join in on the fun
Most memorable for me was a Christmas day ascent of Longs Peak in near-perfect weather.
No wind, and beautiful snow conditions allowed us to climb the mountain to 14,000 feet and, return safely to the car before sunset.
It was an epic adventure, and my first time getting out with proper alpine/snow gear (I’d never used crampons or ice axes before) so, I was super excited and also very nervous the entire climb, but it turned out to be an incredible experience.
Get out and have new experiences.....that's KAVU!
The best part about being home was spending precious moments with friends and family, without a doubt.
This is always the highlight for me.... the time spent with those closest to me..... it's the most important aspect of my life.
