Every few years, the Malaysian government organizes an event in Kuala Lumpur, where jumpers from every corner of the planet get to parachute off one of the most unique buildings in the world. For three days in a row, our group of B.A.S.E misfits gather and enjoy the sights and sounds of this beautiful city, and take part in the best kind of KAVU party.... the kind where we get our knees in the breeze. This was one of those years.
The unfortunate thing about Kuala Lumpur is that it's on the exact opposite side of the world from Utah, which means at least four long flights, with one of them being around 15 hours.
The fortunate thing about Kuala Lumpur is that, as I mentioned, it's an amazing and welcoming city, full of massive, beautiful buildings and delicious food! The "KL tower" is the seventh tallest building in the world at 1,381 feet. A new addition to this event's dramatic backdrop is the worlds second tallest building; the Merderka at 2,227 feet!
This year, the weather turned out to be perfect and 156 jumpers from 25 countries completed over 3000 jumps during the three days of the event.
Our crew from Utah did almost 40 jumps apiece, which is a lot of jumping.... and packing!
Needless to say, the weekend left us exhausted, and extremely content. With the amount the building overhangs, and the overall height of the jumps, this is a great place to do "two-ways"..... or, in other words, to jump at the same time as a friend. It's also the perfect object to work on learning a new trick... like a flip or two.
On the second day of the event, we were allowed a couple hours of night jumps, which offers an amazing view of the city all lit up! The other nights, we cruised the city streets, looking for delicious food....
.... and we were not disappointed!
Since we were on the opposite side of the world..... pretty much anything is on your way home, so we decided to stop through Dubai to make a skydive over the iconic Palms!
This was one of the strangest views from a skydive I've ever had, with the huge city and the man-made islands serving as a surreal backdrop. And, after these unique jumps...
.... we figured we might as well go indoor skiing because skiing in the desert makes no sense! Seemed like the KAVU thing to do, clearly.
All in all, this was another epic trip for the books!
Can’t wait to see where we go next.... and what kind of fun we will get into! More KAVU Days, indeed!!!!
