Living in Moab, we can do an overnight mini-camping trip and find ourselves in a totally rugged and wild place—just an hour from home!
On Friday afternoon, Ian and I threw 4 BASE rigs in the Sprinter, loaded the TW200 on the back and headed out to Mineral Canyon with Cajun. Mineral is a massive wilderness of sandstone cliffs and canyons cut through by the Green River.
We drove down the wild switchbacks and camped right at the bottom of big sandstone cliffs, with just enough time to make some dinner under the stars. We shared time messing around with the Nightsky app and found some spectacular constellations, because this area is one of the best places in the world for stargazing, with some of the least light pollution in America.
In the morning, we both jumped on the TW200 with our BASE rigs, motored up the switchbacks back to the top of the canyon, and voila, we had a 5 minute hike to one of the nicest, biggest jumps around!
We jumped off and flew back down to land at the van to a happy pup and our first cup of coffee. The winds were still calm and it was still cool and crisp, so we drove up the road (meeting a big grey mountain goat on the way!), brought the bike back down the bottom and.....
.....went for round two!
We were back at the van, drinking coffee number two and playing ball with Cajun just as the sun moved over the cliffs.
Couldn’t have asked for a nicer mini road-trip, just a stone’s throw from home.
We're loving the local KAVU days!!
