This last week, it was time to get out of Salt Lake City. Luckily for me, the weather looked perfect for a motorcycle ride north.
A friend and fellow KAVU athlete Felicia sturgeon (a.k.a. Fish) and her family we’re spending a few days on Yellowstone lake... and I got the invite!
From Salt Lake, you can pretty much stay on beautiful backroads winding through the mountains while following rivers all the way north through Teton National Park into Yellowstone National Park.
I started my ride mid-day, to let the temperatures increase and to have the sun at my back (and not in my eyes). Along the way, I passed classic American farms with cute baby horses and baby cows. The ride started off with no other cars on the road, or construction, and somehow remain that way all the way into Jackson, Wyoming and beyond.
As I headed further north, the Grand Teton begin to grow and grow, until I realized that they are on par with any mountains on the planet! Massive and jagged, the Tetons rise thousands of feet from the valley floor!
The road continued to follow beautiful Jackson Lake up into the south entrance of Yellowstone. Large buffalo and elk herds on either side of the road added to the experience and excitement!
As the sun got close to the horizon, I finally made it to Yellowstone lake, where Fish and her family had their boat parked.
The next couple days we spent relaxing and fishing on the lake, which was completely empty, mainly due to the fact that the water was super cold and there’s no wakeboarding or jet skiing allowed anywhere on the entire lake.
We made tacos from the fish we caught and enjoyed an epic sunset from the marina.
We spent one morning rolling through the park and checking out geysers, which if you haven’t done in person is worth the time and effort. I would best describe them as nature's fireworks!
Somehow, the park wasn’t crowded, and the roads were all freshly paved, which made for an all-time visit!
Heading back south while leaving the park, the Tetons were somehow even more incredible to see from a different perspective. Making my way down to a friend's house in Jackson to see the Perseid meteor shower .... then finishing up the ride the next day with more beautiful weather....
This was easily one of the best motorcycle trips I’ve ever taken!
Truly, KAVU Days!
