New Places, Old Friends

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to a new location to BASE jump, so I was extra excited about this trip! With a variety of new hikes and exit points to jump from, heading to the southern hemisphere to experience sunny Brazil was just what I was looking for!

Another positive to this trip was getting to spend some time with KAVU athlete, and old friend, Scotty Bob, his wife Julia and their son, Rio.

The trip started off in the city of Vitoria, where the group gathered from all walks of life, but sharing a common interest in BASE jumping. We had a traditional Brazilian dinner, eating meat served from a giant sword skewers...

... it was delicious!

On day two, we drove deep into remote farm lands... where the large cliffs live. After driving all day on small windy roads, we finally arrived at small house and a beautiful piece of land below a massive cliff. We spent a few days jumping and eating delicious food; mangoes and papayas right from the property. It was an epic start to the trip! The only downside so far was a few angry hornets in the landing area.....

Our next location was even deeper into this beautiful farm land. Just like the vineyards in Italy, or the rice paddies in China... Brazil has rows and rows of coffee plants on every hillside.

Each location we visited, Scotty and his family were friends with the owners of the farms and we were welcomed with smiles and great hospitality. The local food consisted mostly of red beans, rice and steak..... Delicious!

By this point in the trip, we were all covered in bug bites and getting used to the wild humidity, but no one expected to see the giant tarantula in the bunk house! Our new furry friend was escorted out before lights out;-)

Last but not least, we wanted to hangout on the beach..... because it is Brazil!!! So we jumped in the car and headed to Rio!

There is a jump in Rio where you can fly your wingsuit from the jungle topped mountains, right over the city to land on the beach! So of course we did that first! Next, we wanted to do the iconic flight past the Christ statue, which we did with the most incredible clouds!
