About eight years ago, I made a total impulse buy on dropzone.com while in the middle east, buying a used wing suit that was custom built for a guy forty pounds heavier than me. Little did I know how much this decision would affect my life. Back then, the sport was still in its intellectual infancy, with the great majority of knowledge and experience focused in only a handful of humans in Europe, Florida, and the west coast of the US.
Throughout the last half year or so, one of the great pleasures of my life has been the opportunity to take part in a revolution; a revolution in wing suit instruction, and most importantly, in mentoring a new generation of flyers.
As part of the "Next Level" movement, we have been traveling the western United States, trying to broaden our community's knowledge base and foundation in what is undeniably a dangerous, but incredibly rewarding sport. We have been overwhelmed by the positive reaction and overall stoke these camps have created and it feels great to know with a greater level of understanding, the overall sustainability while practicing the art of wing suit flying is steadily improving.
Not only are we able to share OUR experience with students, but we are able to learn from THEM as well. It's so cool to hear how wing suiting has changed their lives for the better. This growth within our community is why I got into this sport in the first place…a true flock of monkey-birds…searching the earth for next, greatest experience, whether on the ground or in the sky. True warriors of the absurd.
My passion to teach and share knowledge in this sport has, and will continue to be a life long passion. These silly suits have unlimited fun potential, and I'm pretty sure - we have barely scratched the surface. :)
