Tulum is a small beach community on the Yucatan Peninsula. It holds an obvious appeal to tourists but still has a “local feel” and remains authentically beautiful.
Having spent a lot of time in Mexico, Tulum is one of the places we love most because it still feels culturally like the “real Mexico”.
Tulum is known for its ecotourism, healthy lifestyles (lots of yoga), and a cozy beach strip filled with yummy restaurants and posh boutiques.
But, the real adventure is away from the strip….
Overall Tulum is a great place to escape. Its an easy place to unplug and just be present.
Feelings: surreal, magical, otherworldly, authentic, dreamy, environmentally conscious, epic, mystical, calm, and peaceful.

As the sun drops toward the horizon, it’s easy to relax after making the most of a KAVU day….
The next day, we head to find the mystic and beautiful Cenotes. Cenotes are a complex cave system that connect the interior with the cool, blue water of the Ocean
Cenotes are probably one of the most magical parts of Tulum! The Mayan natives regarded them as sacred gathering spaces where they could connect with the underworld and perform sacrifices.
These unique cave systems are filled with fresh water, formed by the collapse of limestone bedrock. When you enter any of these caves, there is an immediate feeling that something was there before you. I dunno if its the strikingly clear water or massive stalactites that hang off the cave walls but I definitely felt as though we had stepped into another world.
Adventures in Tulum are the kind that immediately make me feel small and tends to put me in my place……reminding me that I am only human. Living with humility….local worldwide…..that’s KAVU!
