Twas two weeks before Christmas and all through our town....
Pilots were working to ensure there were no frowns.
Cargo holds were cleared then filled to the brim.
Packed up neatly so their CG was in trim.
They filled up their planes with boxes and treats.
Then flew south where 500 kids they did meet.
The morning was perfect, KAVU you might say.
A great day for flying to friends far away.
When Santa arrived in his plane the kids cheered very loud,
“Santa is a pilot?” said a boy from the crowd.
It makes sense since he normally flies with reindeer and sleigh,
that sometimes he likes to fly the more usual way.
In total Santa and his crew delivered 8,000 pounds of gifts,
to people in need, their spirits they would lift.
After talking to the students and spreading holiday cheer,
back in their planes headed St. Nick and his peers.
The pilots flew home, some as far as the North Pole.
While this one was reminded, giving back is good for the soul.
On the way home, I made a pit stop.
To a place called Ibex, it was a short hop.
There was a flag on top the hill, so up towards it I crawled.
Looking back towards my plane, it looked so very small.
While the sun was still high, I returned to the air.
“Be home for dinner” said my partner with care.
A dirt road I followed, nearly all the way home.
That not along ago, wild buffalo by the thousands did roam.
This special day was one I’ll always remember.
Feeling lucky to take to the skies in December.
Spreading the Christmas spirit at the same time too!!
