Summertime....part 2

KAVU athlete, Steph Davis and Ian Mitchard take us on a two part journey from the PNW of the US to the peaks and meadows of Switzerland.

part 2 - Switzerland!

After our road trip from Utah to Washington state, attempting to beat the heat, we packed our bags with wings and climbing gear to fly to one of our favorite places in the world - the Swiss Alps!!

I had a plan to climb the Mittellegi Integrale on the Eiger with my friend Caro, and Ian and I wanted to fly around Lauterbrunnen as well.

Cajun was happy at home with her favorite Uncle Jack!

While in Switzerland, we found perfect weather the entire time, so it turned out that pushing this trip back to August in order to do our "summer road trip" at home first was a great and lucky call!

Mittellegi ridge Integrale

When I met my friend Caro to climb the East ridge of the Eiger, I had a feeling it was going to be a classic.

the Otsego hut

This is the traditional "starting point" for the route and a comfortable stop on a beautiful, and historically notorious mountain. After a stunning sun set, sleep was easy to find

up to the Mittellegi hut

After ascending to the Mittellegi Hut in the morning, we climbed the ridge and snow capped slopes, up and onto the summit where a jaw dropping view of the Bernese Oberland drifted in and out of the clouds below.

Standing on top of a mountain like the Eiger is epic......especially with a smiling friend!! Thanks Caro!!

back in Lauterbrunnen

We got to make some jumps with our friends, Brandon and Ben from Washington (who we had just been hanging with at Mt Barring the month before), as well as a lot of other friends who were also in the area....

The beauty of a quick trip is that you're excited and motivated the whole time, and the 2 weeks in Switzerland just flew by.

Gotta hit the classics

Ian and I were able to jump and fly some of our favorite lines around Lauterbrunnen:

Bussalp, Kandersteg classic, and the Jungfrau...as well as lots of valley jumps--thanks to the convenience of cable cars and the sustenance delivered by the abundance of pastry shops everywhere :)

I also got to make my first two flights with my new Niviuk Skin2 P paraglider! Seeing the Valley from different angles and perspectives kept us laughing every day and so happy to be spending days in that amazing place!

It had been a few years since we'd been to Lauterbrunnen, and yet...it always seems to feel like home.

We couldn't have asked for a better summer adventure :)

The places we get to go on adventures are amazing but, it's the friends along the way that makes the adventures memorable;-)
