Hartman and I recently went for a flight here at home and it was, for sure..... a KAVU kinda day!
I've been enjoying BASE jumps in Utah's Wasatch mountains for many years but, hadn't yet done a wingsuit BASE jump in the backyard. Hartman and I had been talking about the best options for wingsuit BASE jumps around Salt Lake City, and to us both..... one in particular came to mind.
It's called the "Diggler" and it's 15 minutes from my house.
Hartman showed me the numbers (from the exit to the landing) and it seemed to make sense. I've jumped off this beautiful spot over 100 times but never in a wingsuit. We were obviously hoping for ideal conditions. We got a 6 AM start and Hartman's wife, Liz was awesome enough to drive us up (with their dog Lola as a co-pilot) to be our ground crew for the jump/flight.
The conditions were perfect but, we ended up waiting until about 10 AM for the air to start lifting, allowing for every advantage to create safer margins. I watched Hartman go first to show me "what's up" and I followed right behind him......
We both landed in the meadow below, as planned and the KAVU vibes were legendary.
My friendship with Hartman is one of my favorites which made this jump that much more rad and special. We got into jumping together and we''ve done hundreds of jumps together all around the world.... most of which have been life highlights. Any time I get to spend with Hartman is....
Time Well Spent!~
