When the Utah winter sets in, and you need a break from the bone chilling temperatures....
Mexico is the place to go!
For the fourth year in a row, I have traveled to Puerto Escondido to make some skydives, eat delicious food and drink coconuts!
And, each year.... it has delivered perfect weather, and loads of fun!
This year, the Skydiving center requested that I help organize the wingsuiters, which of course.... I was stoked about.
So basically, I’m the air traffic controller, making sure everyone’s flying in the right places to avoid collisions and pairing up skill level and suit size so everyone has a good time. I was up for the challenge, and it indeed turned out to be a awesome!
The view while skydiving over the ocean is unlike anything else; the vastness of the unbroken horizon is very apparent from 13,000 feet. Everyone lands on the beach, and from there... you walk back to the Skydiving center to re-pack your parachute, make another jump plan, and then quickly jump in the van back to the airport for another round of good old-fashioned KAVU fun-having.
The airport we takeoff from is actually an operating commercial airport, so there are people getting off large jets walking past you as we stand in our wingsuits.... and you get some pretty funny looks.
The pilots also find it entertaining.... we've been known to get some "rock-on" hand signs from the cockpit.
This year I arrived on New Year’s Eve, and went straight to the beach for fireworks and an awesome party. This seems to be the place where the locals go on vacation as well, which is always a good sign.
MORE KAVU DAYS!
