Past experience aside, the beginning of a 3700 mile journey across the Atlantic evokes a curiosity about “what’s going to happen?”.
After a number of weeks of work preparing the boat, the day finally came to cast off toward Brazil.
The weather leaving Cape Town was crisp and brisk. Sailing almost directly into the wind, in a disorganized sea, was an adventurous way to start.
While Jeff and Tyler had a rougher start, Dan was rock solid and stepped it up, making dinner and pulling extra weight. Of course, he didn’t forget to laugh at the boys!
After around 5 days of stormy skies, the boys fell into a rhythm that included sea legs and settled stomachs.

As the seas mellowed out, we started to catch fish. Most were released on their way but some…..some became the most fresh sushi rolls available.

After 21 days and 2/3rds of the crossing, we spotted Ascension Island and were more than keen to get our toes in the sand!
