After 2 summers of torturing ourselves while traveling through Europe with a baby, Julia and I decided to try something a little different this year. So, we booked an apartment in Arco, Italy and decided to become short-term residents at Brento
It ended up being a solid move, since our son, Rio still sleeps in till 8:30 or 9am.... and we are done coaching most mornings by 11. This works out, since we're able to get most of our work done while he sleeps.
Making sure we give students, and what we're doing, full attention is important for obvious reasons. But, a balance is as important so that Rio can live his best life, full of KAVU days.... and so we can focus on time together as a family as well.
It took some adjustments getting used to the 4:30am wake ups.....
But after a few days, we were in the swing of things. Over 7 weeks time, Julia and I did over 85 jumps from Brento and the surrounding areas.
Mostly, we were coaching students on their terminal tracking, or wing suit BASE, but we still managed to get some fun-jumps in of our own as well;-). We love passing on "lessons-learned" about technique, safe practice.... and to simply share the passion for flying in the mountains with students who come from all walks of life. In a way, we're all part of the same wild family.
We also knocked off a couple of jumps we haven’t jumped before.... like Cima Capi, Godzilla, and a bunch in the Dolomites. Truly, there are few places in the world as beautiful as northern Italy.
Truth is..... Italy treated us very well!
We would like to send a shout out to everyone at the Italian BASE Association for being so welcoming!
We are trying our best to still coach and do what we love, while spending meaningful time with our son in a really cool place.
....... Think we will come back next year!
